Note Card Gift Sets Available!

Over a lifetime of observing nature through a camera lens, I've transitioned from literal reproductions to fanciful reconstructions, built from borrowed elements and bent reality. Experimenting with camera movement, long exposures, and imposed symmetry, I've found surprising visual parallels with the natural cycles of the earth.

The spiral, one of nature's fundamental building blocks, suggests both growth and diminishment, an expansion or contraction of time. Intense color and exaggerated motion hint at alternate perceptions of time and space that ordinarily elude us, such as the rush of an insect pollinating a flower, or the centuries-long turf battle between a rock and a tree. Mirror-imaging imposes a bi-lateral symmetry on inanimate objects that can bring them to life, or, taken further, create an abstraction based on nature's own miraculous design.

Willows Bend

Picture
The Willows Tree is a happy mystical place where friends gather except for one grumpy little frog who would much rather be by himself than make friends with others because they are different. He learns a valuable lesson when he meets another frog who teaches him that friendship is something we create when we accept the uniqueness of others. At the end of the day it'ss nice to have friends. Willow'ss Bend teaches children to open up to the differences of others and to accept their own uniqueness through an unforgettable group of characters. The clever illustrations are equally entertaining for adults making it a fun read for the whole family.

Bags,  Knitted Accessories,                Dog Coats, and Jewelry

Picture
Huzzah!  Unique, Handmade Wearables is a one-woman operation that features a variety of hand-made accessories using various techniques. I knit and/or sew every item in my shop. Often, I incorporate multiple techniques and materials in my work. Some of my felted bags are made from refashioned wool sweaters and combine felting with sewing. I enjoy letting the shape and design of these bags reveal itself to me as I work, trying to cut the material as little as possible, Some are rustic looking, and some are more sophisticated. The materials dictate the final result. Lately, I've been introducing machine embroidery to my designs, adding another dimension to my work. All my bags are sturdy and functional, as well as beautiful.

2001 Fine Art Calendar ~ Romantic Hudson Valley

Picture
With my images I explore the realms of dreams, memory, fantasy and the dark fairy tale realms where all three blend and blur.
My images are generally inspired by recollections of all of these.

My photographs explore the realms of the unconscious. I have always been fascinated with dreams and memory; my images are generally inspired by recollections. The worlds of reality and fantasy collide and blend in my work.

The characters I draw are odd and exaggerated and isolate themselves in their raw, over-emotional states. A spiritual fortitude resounds in each subject as they connect to the animals and other figures. The drawings intermingle vulnerability with strength, melancholy with humor.

Surrounding the form is white space. This white is used to further isolate the figure and also suggests a blinding state of dream or memory; a stark flash of insight. The elements are personal formed from dreams, family photographs, and memories pieced together.

In my work, are forms and knowledge pulled from the fields of semiotics, psychology, dream analysis, Native American literature, women's studies, prophecy, and animal symbolism. When I sit down to make the work, the process condenses and crystallizes to an emotion, my hearts story.

Caitlin Lightfoot ~ Custom Made Jewelry

Picture

Caitlin Lightfoot ~ Custom made jewelry

Picture
Caitlin Lightfoot lives and works in the Hudson Valley’s Dutchess County. She received some formal schooling in fine art and fashion design from Parsons School of Design, NYC, and in ceramics at SUNY New Paltz. The bulk of her skills as an artist and artisan were cultivated through work-apprenticeships with Hudson Valley artists and craftsmen.

Her current focus is jewelry. She works with gold, silver, copper, brass, semiprecious stones, and seeds. Caitlin derives her designs from the art of many different ancient cultures, as well as from the continuity of forces, form and line she finds in the natural world. Her hand-hammered wire work is textured with local river stone.

She has most recently found inspiration in antique and vintage hardware, and has created a line of one-of- a-kind and limited edition pieces using these components. These pieces are meant to evoke another era, and the people who touched the pieces in the course of their daily lives.

She also paints on canvas paper using gouache, makes clay vessels by hand building, and uses pen and marker on paper.

                                             Jen Jeglinski Ceramics

Picture
Everything starts by hand rolling out a sheet of clay with a rolling pin. There are no machines used until the finished work makes it to the kiln. From there, textures are added with handmade stamps, buttons, block stamps, and much more. The clay at this point is a blank canvas. After the design is added, a shape is cut out with a pattern. This slower pace allows for a slower more intentional process and adds uniqueness to each piece.

For years, she sewed and designed patterns so working with clay in this way was intuitive. Pieces are assembled while the clay is still wet. Jen enjoys color and brings this to her work through the glazes she makes by hand. She lives in High Falls, NY.
